Crisp Cookies

A few weeks ago, I found a recipe on quite an interesting cookie at the blog Niotillfem, cookies made out of crisps, that I just had to try it some day. Last friday it was time for that, and me and Adam stayed up to late in order to finish them. And the result was amazing, worth staying up for, with the salty and sweet taste on same time, it did taste wonderful. We will make these one’s again, I am sure of it. But for now, the cookies are resting in a blue tin Adam had with him when he moved to me. When they are not being eaten of course.

The recipe I used can be found here.

Initiative

When I came home yesterday, after a not so good day in school, I noticed a black bag standing on the living room table, with a note saying “Initiative”.

I knew right away it was Adam who had put it there, as I had asked him to start take more initiative around the house, maybe buy the baby something he chose himself. Full of curiosity, I opened the bag, and found this…..

A cute little hat for the baby, with the well known pattern “Moln” by Gunila Axén which was created already 1967. The designer have said herself she got a lot of inspiration from japanese design and that she was amazed by that you could tell so much with a simple pattern. The products with this pattern are sold by Färg&Form.

I am proud over Adam’s initiative taking and happy he got such a good taste in things. Baby sure will be happy about it’s clouds on a red sky-hat too.

Trading Day – A new (old) kind of shopping

Last saturday, it was the national trading day here in Sweden and as I get most of my clothes from trading days, I (of course) participated in this, and got 7 nice new things, 5 for me and 2 for Adam to renew our closets with. As it is good both for the environment and your wallet to trade clothes you’re tired of for “new” ones, I thought I was going to share with you some photos of my latest trading day. Trading days are a new (old) kind and fun way to shop things.

The day started off with that I woke up super early, a few hours before Adam, made breakfast and wrote Adam a note so he would know that I went out.

I had Ådi with me as company, plus a bag of clothes I was bored of and have not used for several years. As my closet is a real black hole, I do not even remember owning a few of the items I brought with me.

Around 11 I arrived at the trading day. As this is a informative post about trading days, I shall talk a little about what you do here. Normally you leave in your items between a certain period of hours (here between 10-12). You get a note saying that you have left in X items, which means that you can trade for that amount of items. If you leave in 5 items, but only find one you want to take home, you can of course only take that one thing with you. A normal thing is that a person who doesn’t  want more then a certain amount of items give their note away to other people.

A trading day is mostly a fun event, but I have been to one-two of them where people have been wild and grabbed everything they could, pushed and swore at each other. This is not okey I think, but it is up to the event leaders to have control over the situation. But if one person are rude, I normally tell them off, as it is not okey to push people around. The trading day I went to was calm though and people were considerate.

My finds on this day was a dress, a blazer, a skirt and two shirts for me. I also found Adam a jacket and a t-shirt which did suit him well. Fully satisfied with myself, I walked home, but passed the park instead, so I could see all the cherry trees blossom. A good ending on a good day.

“Thank you, for all your efforts and hours spent”

Last friday, that god awful 20th of April (see previous post about why it was awful), I was invited with a few other people to a really nice thank you dinner. Or, I say a few, when we were actually 150 nice people who have tried their best to make our student union one of the best in Sweden. And yes, I am biased. In our best student manner we sang, ate and drank and shouted loudly at each other, and people thanked each other both right and left. Very fun, even if I felt down.

The evening started with that Johan and I (my travel partner) arrived at Ryds Mansion in Linköping, and came right into a busy and crowded hallway, where everyone got their drinks. I skipped that part though as the alcohol free one was out, and went to take photos of everyone I recognized there, and do some mingling.

Kadir and Gustav, two people I have worked closely with in the student union since spring last year. Oh to imagine that year will soon have ended, it is quite sad. But I will get to meet new wonderful people next year.

Sara,  our secretary, was dressed in red. She will be with us the next year also I just heard, that makes me happy.

Fredrik and Björn, my two fellow Green Students, party members and co-workers in the union (which is called StuFF, if you care to know).

After I played paparazzi and took photos of half the crowd, we got guided into the rooms. As we were so many there two rooms , and the first thing I did was taking photos of the beautiful candelier. I wish I had one of those here at home!

As we had specific places, I sat next to Fredrik and Björn, and also these two girls, whom I found out were pedagogy students, but I forgot their names. Shame!

Starter dish, cucumber and mozarella on toast, even if it had a fancier name on the menu: Toast Caprese

Did taste deliciois though, shall try make it here at home some day.

Some students entertained us while we were eating, these people sang ridicolus and hillarious songs.

My name spelt wrong. Again!

Crowd photo. It is nice to see everyone being happy and having a meal together.

At my table, we had an really fun drawing contest, which continued on the table cloth when we ran out of paper. We competed with things like funniest StuFF-memory, draw a caricature of one member in StuFF and so on.

Main dish. I got my food last of all 150 people, as I had ordered it without tomatoes, and they forgot that. I had to remind them, so I finally got my food, an half hour after everyone else.

Another entertainment number, by Fredrik and Björn.

Dessert was saffron parfait, which I had a cup of tea with. I thought it was really nice,  After this I went to Matilda (classmate) with some other classmates and then me and Johan and Alex went home, as we all were getting up early the next day.

A real crappy day

Yesterday it is 4 years ago since my beloved uncle died, only 28 years old. I did not blog at all because of that, instead I filled my day with going to the church and lit candles for him, and being with friends later on a fancy dinner and party, all in order not to think about what happend. My uncle said that being happy and enjoy life is the far most important thing to do, and that was what I tried to do yesterday, to his honour. Will later today show what I did.

We all have someone we miss, how do you cope with it?

Dirty Internet

Image belongs to the GreenPeace organisation.

GreenPeace, an organisation which I support monthly has came up with a new campaign about the dirty energy used by big Internet companies like Apple and Microsoft. The energy being used to secure that Internet keeps running is mainly coal based, which is one of the most dirtiest kinds of energy that exists. Every click you make on Internet uses up this energy, making the world dirtier. A company that change their energy use to sustainble forms like sun energy and wind is Facebook. Facebook was using coal energy before, but stopped with it in a former campaign from GreenPeace (which I also participated in). That if something shows how easy it is to get your voice heard.

Just sign the petition here, and make your clicks a little greener.

Stories from my life – The Book Reading with Ida Pyk

Friday the 13th of April was, despite the rumours of it being a day full of bad luck, a good day for me. After a busy time in school, I took a train to Stockholm. It was raining and cold when I arrived, and I had forgotten my umbrella.  Despite that, I took out the map I had drawn for myself, in order to find the place I was going to and started walking. I found the café Vetekatten, and I did not even need to look on the map once which made me proud. When I asked one of the staff where the VIP room was, I heard a voice behind me, saying “Oh are you going to the book reading? Follow me, we are over here.” A brown haired women was the owner of the voice, and I got surprised that she was not much taller then me. A fellow midget, I thought, smiled and introduced myself. I did not catch her name as she was guiding me through the crowd.

At the VIP room, everyone was already gathered, I was one of the last ones in. In one corner sat Ida Pyk, the author of the book Paris, Chérie which we were going to talk about, and 5-6 other girls was spread around the table. We started off with introducing ourselves, and when it came to me, I could feel my normal nervousness rise up in my chest. I think I said something about that I write the leaflets  for my political party, but it was not what I wanted to say, god no. I write poetry, a lot of poetry and have done so since the age of 12, I have won competitions, got a small poem published once and I’ve got books filled with my poems. They are hundreds, thousands, as poetry is in my blood, it is my life. Instead, I said I write leaflets.

After the introductions were done, the brown haired women, I got her name this time, Emilia, who started off with asking premade questions about book writing in general and about Ida’s book. It made the environment stiff I thought, not much chance of getting the real idea of the book and of Ida, the author. The nervousness in the room was obvious, and people were quiet, ate their scones and drank their coffees. After a while, Ida read a chapter of her book and I think it was at that moment people started to loosen up. Discussions about Paris Chérie, other books, France, and authors were raised, and question after question was directed to Ida. I think I made myself known as a real Anglophile, and a book addict.

The discussions could probably have continued the entire evening, but it was getting late and I had a train to get back to Norrköping. Everyone said good bye and good luck to Ida, and went out. I had a small talk with one of the other girls, a journalist to be, about what we just experienced, and I felt happy and satisfied. I said good bye to Miss Journalist and I hurried to catch my train. Sitting there in the seat, I fell asleep, while the rain hit the train window.  A little shaken, I heard someone say to me ”Oh what are you doing here? It is a small world.” It was three of my classmates, but I did not tell them what I had been doing, not yet. I wanted to keep it for myself a little while, let it grow on me. I just smiled and replied “It is a small world indeed.

I shall publish my review of the book after it comes out in the store, but you can pre order it already on Bokus.

On a sunday morning…

….I woke up before Adam, something that is not common. As I did not want to wake him up, I went to the living room and listened to some Vivaldi, one of my favorite composers. I gave Adam a hug when he came up later.

I ate a huge breakfast consisting of bread with ham and butter, muesli and sour milk and a big glass of orange juice. Pregnancy Cravings are fun.

I finished one book, Att vara med henne…by Alex Schulman. This book has one of the longest titles I have ever seen. It is a good book though, so all you sweds out there, I suggest you read it. I’m going to return to the library, so someone else can get the chance to read it. :)

Also what happend this Sunday morning is that Ådi continued with his sunbathing. I think that is his happiest moment, and I can never get enough of taking photos of him when he do that, he is so cute.

Good start on a good day, in other words. Now I shall shower and then go out on this beautiful spring day.

Meatballs

As promised, here comes my meatballs recipe.

500 grams of minced meat

1 dl breadcrumbs

150 milliliters of milk

1 egg

Salt, Pepper and tarragon for flavoring.

Mix milk and breadcrumbs together, and let it stand for 10 mins. Add the other ingredients and mix thorughly. Wet your hands, roll the paste to balls (size you can decide yourself, I like them quite big so I got 15 meatballs from this recipe) and put them on a wet plate. Fry the meatballs with a little fat, and then put them on a plate.

I served my meatballs with rocket and mashed potatoes. :)

Spring in the Kitchen

Slowly but steadily the kitchen starts to look like I want it, with red walls and blue things here and there. The latest change are in the kitchen window, which got tulips and other flowers in blue pots and cups. I think about planting some nice herbs next. Hopefully the kitchen feels done then, so I can go on to the next rooms.
